Personal Profile.
Charlene Soo is a media composer and singer-songwriter from Singapore, based in Los Angeles. Her melodic, theme-driven approach to orchestral and electronic scoring has earned her finalist placements in international competitions such as Music+Sound Awards and the European Recording Orchestra Call for Scores. Drawing inspiration from composers like John Williams, Thomas Newman, Ennio Morricone, and Hildur Guðnadóttir, Charlene’s work spans film, games, and interactive media.
Her recent projects include the original soundtrack for Aftershock, a space documentary directed by Collin Nelson and co-composed with Andreu Diport, recorded with a 59-piece orchestra in Budapest alongside studio musicians in LA. Charlene’s music has also been recorded by AFM musicians in renowned studios such as Warner Bros. and Evergreen Studios.
A graduate of the University of Southern California’s Screen Scoring Masters program, Charlene also holds a joint honours degree in Music and Communication from the University of Liverpool. She also studied Electronic Music and Sound Design at the University of Western Australia. With experience spanning four continents, she brings a global perspective and passion for storytelling through music.
P.S. In her free time, Charlene can be found hunting for the best pasta in LA, knee-deep in a good book, or giving in to whatever her foster pup wants. If you’re up for a creative collaboration—or just want to chat about stories, music, or pasta—she’s always happy to connect!
